Zuma urges tougher action on Zimbabwe

Jacob Zuma, the leader of South Africa’s African Nat­ional Congress, urged regional leaders on Friday to “force” a resolution of the stand-off that has paralysed Zimbabwe for almost two months.

Signalling an end to the “quiet diplomacy” favoured by Thabo Mbeki, South Africa’s former president, Mr Zuma told the leaders: “As far as I’m concerned, SADC [Southern African Development Community] must make those Zimbabweans reach an agreement.”
