Chirac and Blair focus on initiatives to boost economy

Tony Blair and Jacques Chirac on Friday played down their divisions over the European Union's budget at a meeting in Paris, focusing instead on how the UK and France could promote new initiatives to boost the European economy.

As the British prime minister prepares to host an informal summit of EU leaders this month, both he and the French president agreed that the focus should be on how Europe meets the challenge of globalisation.
