Judge backs detainees’ challenge

Barack Obama ran into his first significant hurdle in detainee policy on Thursday after a judge ruled that three prisoners held in a US prison in Afghanistan could challenge their detention in US courts.

A district court ruled that two Yemeni men and one Tunisian national held at Bagram prison outside Kabul could challenge their detention, saying their cases mirrored the situation at Guantánamo.
