Politics enters uncharted waters

Thailand’s elites won partial vindication on Tuesday when the constitutional court ordered Somchai Wongsawat, the prime minister, to leave office, but it might be a pyrrhic victory.

Many of the divisions – between rich and poor, rural and urban, populist and traditional – that gave rise to the confrontation between the government and protesters remain unresolved.
