World lead in nanotechnology lost

Britain has lost its place as a leader in nanotechnology and could fall further behind in the science of the ultra-small, the government's science advisers warn today.

The independent Council for Science and Technology blames the government's failure to deliver on a promise to underpin public confidence and regulation in the field through the commissioning and funding of research into the health and environmental risks.
