Writing new rights

As part of its latest relaunch, the UK government has sought to break fresh ground through the creation of new “rights” for the British people.

The government currently insists that public health authorities arrange for treatment for patients within fixed deadlines. Now these obligations will be turned on their heads, becoming the right to demand publicly funded private care if the normal channels cannot do so on time.
