Votorantim spends R$2.2bn to cancel swaps

Grupo Votorantim, a Brazilian conglomerate with interests that include paper and pulp, cement, chemicals and agribusiness, said on Friday it had spent R$2.2bn to liquidate positions in derivatives acquired as protection against the appreciation of Brazil’s currency.

Votorantim is the third Brazilian company to announce substantial losses arising from bets on the currency as the real has plummeted in value over recent weeks.
