Putin eyes a 'strong leader' as successor

Russian president Vladimir Putin insisted on Friday that he wanted to be followed by another strong president - and said Viktor Zubkov, the little-known new prime minister, was among five potential successors.

But Mr Putin said that he wanted to retain power and influence in the Kremlin after he stands down next year, as he is required to do by the Russian constitution.
