Ban Ki-moon criticises top UN rights body

Ban Ki-moon, UN secretary-general, on Monday criticised the organisation’s top human rights body for selective condemnation of abuses and warned it not to interfere with the work of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

In a speech to the opening of a four-week session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Mr Ban questioned whether the council was “fully meeting the high expectations” of the international community.
