Army head calls for partly open Iraq inquiry

General Sir Richard Dannatt, head of the army, said on Wednesday he understood the feelings of those who wanted at least some of the inquiry into the Iraq war to be held in public.

In comments that will intensify pressure on Gordon Brown to reverse his decision to hold the inquiry in private, Gen Dannatt said he approved of the idea of holding the inquiry partly in public.
