Risk aversion helps the dollar

Currencies investors flocked to the safe haven of the dollar this week as Lehman Brothers, the US investment bank, fought to stay afloat and caused turbulence on global equity markets.

Washington’s bail-out of mortgage agencies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at the week’s start boosted risk appetite but the effect was cancelled out by mounting worries about Lehman.
