Italians advance on US with deal for DRS

The opening up of the American defence market took another step forward on Monday when Finmeccanica, Italy’s largest defence contractor agreed to buy DRS Technologies, a leading supplier to the US military, for $5.28bn.

The deal secures Finmeccanica a large foothold in the lucrative American market and will put it some way ahead of its continental European rivals.
