Sultan al-Jaber is chief executive of Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy initiative, Masdar, but he drives a conventional four-wheel drive – highlighting the gap between reality and high hopes for sustainability in the UAE capital.
“In an ideal world, I would drive an electric car,” he says. But when asked about hybrid cars, he replies: “There’s no market for them here and I wish the car agents would get one for me.”
