Lending to companies continues to fall

Lending by high street banks to companies fell in April for the second month in a row, in a warning sign of the weak level of credit flowing around the UK economy.

Non-financial companies paid back a net total of £2.3bn to major banks last month, after paying back £1.3bn in March, the British Bankers’ Association reported. Businesses have made net repayments of debt in four of the last six months.
