Revenues sacrificed in fight to capture new TV market

Gary Shapiro, president of the Washington-based Consumer Electronics Association, declared a year ago that 2006 would be "the year of HDTV" or high definition television. His prediction proved spot on.

Even though consumers may remain confused about what exactly constitutes HDTV service, sales of digital TV sets capable of displaying high definition programming have soared in the US and elsewhere.
