Web IDs agency Icann picks new chief

The board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, known as Icann, late on Thursday picked Rod Beckstrom as the non-profit group’s chief executive, who until earlier this year served as cyber-security tsar at the US Department of Homeland Security.

The choice reflects the growing importance of security as a primary concern at Icann, which is the main internet governance body, if a weak one.
