The mythological Gorgon is rooted in ancient Greece – but the Australian gas project of the same name is a modern tale about an energy dependent world.

Three decades after its discovery off the pristine western Australian coast and after years of preparation, the Gorgon gas project will be officially born in the coming days when its big oil owners sign off on its development at an estimated cost of A$42bn ($36bn).
