Is China hiding its inflation?

On Friday China will release its economic performance numbers for the first quarter of the year. The most closely-watched number will be the consumer price index (CPI), which will indicate whether the government really has the red-hot economy under control or not. Unfortunately, that number could well paint a misleading picture.
