Weak banks drag FTSE lower

The oil sector provided support for equities in London on Monday as investors used gains from Friday as an opportunity to take profits.

The FTSE 100 closed 7 points or 0.1 per cent lower at 5,779.8 while the FTSE 250 index lost 38.3 points or 0.4 per cent to 9,169.0. Volume was a relatively firm 3bn shares.
