Hundreds of jubilant villagers waved twigs and danced from house to house in the tiny village of Kogelo, in Western Kenya on news that Barack Obama’s victory in the US presidential elections.

Residents had kept vigil throughout the night watching the results of the US presidential elections on generator-powered TV screens erected at a local dispensary and at the home of Mr Obama’s 87-year old paternal grandmother known locally as Mama Sarah.
