India’s Congress buys rights to Slumdog tune

India’s ruling Congress party is hoping to ride on Slumdog Millionaire’s tail of success in next month’s general election, as it has acquired the rights of Jai Ho, the movie’s Oscar-winning soundtrack.

Percept, the advertising agency instructed by Congress to negotiate the rights’ acquisition, bought the song of the rags-to-riches film based in Mumbai’s slums for “a few hundred thousand dollars”, people familiar with the deal told the FT.
