John McCain yesterday stepped up criticism of Barack Obama's foreign policy judgment and took another step away from the Bush administration by condemning its botched handling of the war in Iraq.

The Republican presidential candidate condemned his likely Democratic opponent for planning to withdraw US forces from Iraq without having visited the country to assess conditions since last year's troop surge.
