JC Penney still cautious on sentiment

JC Penney, the US department store chain, sounded a cautious note on Friday about sentiment among its core middle class consumers, in spite of reporting quarterly results that were substantially better than forecast three months ago.

Mike Ullman, chief executive, who is also a member of the Dallas board of the Federal Reserve, said that “we are seeing more stability and predictability in our business trends”.
