Anger at UK digital copy protection plans

An attempt by UK broadcasters to add “copy protection” capabilities to the forthcoming high-definition version of Freeview has caused an outcry among opponents of digital rights management technology.

If permitted by Ofcom, communications regulator, viewers may be restricted in how they can record programmes broadcast on Freeview HD, in a way that has not happened before with free-to-air TV.
