China attempts to tame the media

Even the sleepiest reader of China’s Bingdian Weekly will have noticed the change of tone in yesterday’s edition.

A month after the ruling Communist party suspended publication and ousted its editors, there was no sign of the investigative reporting or orthodoxy-challenging essays that have long drawn readers to the China Youth Daily’s weekly supplement.
