Companies join Katrina relief effort

Pledges of financial aid for the estimated 50,000 people left homeless in the wake of Hurricane Katrina continued to pour into relief organisations at a record pace as the estimated cost of Katrina’s damage soared to $100bn.

The American Red Cross said donations from individuals and companies had reached $196.9m by last tally.
