Steinbrück at odds with French over ECB

Peer Steinbrück, Germany’s finance minister, has said he disagrees with French criticism of the European Central Bank and fully supports the ECB’s legally enshrined independence from political pressure.

However, at a meeting of eurozone finance ministers on Monday evening, Mr Steinbrück dropped a hint or two that he was not entirely satisfied with the ECB’s decision last week to raise interest rates to a seven-year high.
