Cameron promises an end to Britain's 'spendaholic' era

David Cameron, leader of the UK opposition Conservative party, yesterday pledged to end a "spendaholic" era and put Britain's economy back on track with "difficult and unpopular" decisions.

In a sombre address to his party conference infused with the rhetoric of responsibility, Mr Cameron sought to burnish his credentials as a leader with the "character and judgment" to lead Britain out of a financial crisis.
