Carphone Warehouse rises as Vodafone relents on withdrawal

Carphone Warehouse shares rose nearly 8 per cent after Merrill Lynch reported Vodafone had partially backed down from plans to stop selling contracts through the mobile phone retailer.

Vodafone inflicted a blow on Carphone in October, when it announced a deal with rival Phones4U, making it the exclusive third-party retailer for Vodafone contract customers on the UK high street.
