Eurozone fairness in question as Lithuania denied

Lithuania will be told on Tuesday that its bid to join the eurozone in 2007 has been turned down in a ruling that has raised questions about whether the entry rules are being applied fairly or even make economic sense.

The small Baltic state feels aggrieved it is being refused entry on the grounds that its inflation rate is marginally above the 2.6 per cent benchmark used by the European Commission and European Central Bank.
