Swedish recession fears deepen

The Swedish economy will contract by 4.2 per cent this year, the government forecast on Wednesday, pushing unemployment up to 11.7 per cent by 2011.

The new forecast represents a massive revision from December’s prediction of a 0.8 per cent decline in gross domestic product and shows how the open Swedish economy is now expected to suffer one of the worst recessions in western Europe.
