Novartis upbeat on US growth outlook

Novartis predicted it would overcome a sharp slowdown in its crucial US business and restore growth in the second half, after inroads by generics and product setbacks hit profits at the Swiss pharmaceuticals group last year.

The company, once one of the world’s fastest growing drugmakers, forecast another record year of net sales and earnings on continuing businesses, in spite of low single-digit sales growth at its core division in 2008.
