Fukuda’s exit paves way for Abe to be PM

Shinzo Abe, Japan’s chief cabinet secretary, is almost certain to become Japan’s next prime minister after Yasuo Fukuda, his most formidable challenger, said he would not run for the post in September owing to his age and the controversial issue of visiting the Yasukuni shrine.
