Water: Infrastructure failings put more pressure on access to a vital resource

Mention water resources in Tanzania and the conversation is likely to veer towards controversy.

It could be the disputed contract between a British company and the government over a privatisation scheme that was seen by some as a test case for public-private partnerships. Or it may be the government’s decision to spend 60 per cent of its water budget on a project to pipe water from Lake Victoria, a plan that risks political tensions.
