Asian private equity suffers rude awakening

Private equity executives who had hoped that Asia’s fast-growing economies would offer an oasis amid the industry turmoil were in for a rude awakening in 2008.

Most global private equity firms faced challenges in Asia ranging from rescuing portfolio companies to, in some cases, renegotiating banking covenants on deals signed in headier days.
