French court to rule on auction of Chinese bronzes

The auction on Monday of two Chinese bronzes looted by European troops from Beijing more than a century ago has been thrown into doubt after a French court agreed to consider an emergency request to stop the sale.

Ren Xiaohong, a Paris-based lawyer working on the case, said the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris would rule on Monday whether the artefacts should be removed from the auction of the art collection of Yves Saint Laurent.
