Taiwan?s opposition Nationalist Party, which once ruled all of China, sent a fence-mending delegation to the mainland on Monday to try to ease tensions in one of Asia?s most dangerous flashpoints.
The visit led by Chiang Pin-kung, vice-chairman of the Nationalist Party or Kuomintang (KMT), comes two days after hundreds of thousands marched in Taiwan in protest over a Chinese anti-secession law which sanctions the use of force against the self-ruled island if it formally declares independence.
