Israel’s president on Friday granted Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of the right-wing Likud party and Israel’s prime minister-designate, an additional two weeks to form a government, giving him more time to persuade the centre-left Labour party to join his coalition.
Mr Netanyahu already has the option of forming a governing majority with several far-right and religious parties, which together control enough seats in the new Israeli parliament to elect the Likud leader as prime minister.
