S&P warns on leveraged loans’ risks

Rapid growth in the market for leveraged loans has prompted banks to engage in looser lending because they are able to pass on the risk to hedge funds and other investors, Standard & Poor’s, the credit rating agency, has warned.

In a report due to be published on Thursday, S&P warns that a sudden change in appetite from investors could force banks to absorb large leveraged loans on to their own balance sheets.
