Murder thrusts gun crime to top of agenda

Gun crime and youth violence dominated the political stage on Thursday as Gordon Brown condemned the “heinous” murder of an 11-year-old boy gunned down while playing football with friends.

Speaking ahead of a Downing Street summit on youth disorder and gang crime, the prime minister said the people responsible for the shooting that had “shocked” the country would be “tracked down, arrested and punished”.
