Brown unveils energy saving package

Gordon Brown, UK prime minister, yesterday unveiled a £1bn energy package in his latest bid to reverse the precipitous decline in his political fortunes.

The energy efficiency measures funded by the "big six" energy companies operating in the UK are designed to help low-income families cope with soaring utility bills by making "long-term savings".
