Government defends business tax regime

A vigorous defence of tax policy was mounted by the government on Tuesday in the wake of a report showing almost a third of the UK’s biggest companies were not paying any corporation tax.

“It is ridiculous to suggest that business does not pay its fair share of tax,” said HM Revenue and Customs.
