Siemens' chief executive yesterday urged political leaders to create a global framework for a "green wave of industrialisation" at next month's Copenhagen environmental summit, as he gave warning that the world could not afford to fail to reach a deal.

Peter Löscher's call came only days after a 175-nation meeting on climate change in Barcelona exposed a continuing rich-poor split and ended with little progress.
