Czech paralysis will not infect EU

The Czech government’s suspended animation after losing a vote of confidence in parliament has caused a predictable outbreak of alarm and despondency in Brussels. The reason is that the Czech Republic also occupies the European Union’s rotating six-monthly presidency, chairing EU leaders’ summits and monthly ministerial councils.

Some fear that EU business might stumble to a standstill. Others bewail the loss of leadership in Europe.
