Congress reignites US stimulus debate

Republicans prepared for battle over the stimulus on Wednesday, looking to take advantage of the Democratic division over this year’s $787bn infusion of federal aid to the US economy.

Darrell Issa, the lead Republican on the House oversight committee, said in an opening statement at a stimulus hearing that the plan was a waste of taxpayers’ money.
