Even by the Byzantine standards of Lebanese politics, by-elections on Sunday to replace two assassinated members of parliament are likely to prove more dramatic than usual.
In an emotionally charged race, Amin Gemayel, former president, is running to replace his son Pierre, the former industry minister, who was murdered in 2006. The contest might also have the most impact, albeit indirectly, when parliament chooses a new president later this year.
