Cairo market joins Gulf bourses in big sell-off

Gulf markets declined for the third day in a row on Tuesday and the Egyptian stock exchange plunged 16 per cent to its lowest point in two years, because of growing perceptions that the region is far from immune from the credit crunch.

In Cairo, which reopened after a week-long public holiday, traded volumes were low but the benchmark CASE 30 index of the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange plummeted.
