Self-sufficiency tends to be associated with the hippie ideals of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Now, however, it has been employed as the key idea in the development of a new breed of luxury super-yacht.

As its name suggests, the Wallyisland, from Monaco-based boat builder Wally, is designed to act as a floating island. It is equipped for full-time life on board and has fuel tanks large enough to allow for five years of cruising.
