Beijing blames Koizumi for ill will

China has denounced continuing visits by Japanese leaders to a shrine to their country's war dead, highlighting Beijing's hopes that the successor to Junichiro Koizumi, Japan's current prime minister, will drop the practice.

Asked about ties with Tokyo at an annual nationally televised press conference in Beijing, Li Zhaoxing, Chinese foreign minister, focused squarely on Mr Koizumi's controversial visits to Yasukuni shrine.
