Call centre investors seek 'social return'

Social investors are putting £1.3m into Call Britannia, a call centre business that will give jobs to the long-term unemployed. The innovative deal introduces features copied from tough-minded profit-driven transactions into the notoriously woolly sphere of social investment.

Social investors, such as the former venture capitalist Sir Ronald Cohen, have been wrestling to find ways of imposing effective disciplines on social entrepreneurs, who pursue social as well as financial returns.
